Press - UIA 2030 Award - Third Cycle Announcement (WUF13).
The International Union of Architects (UIA), in partnership with UN-Habitat, have launched the third cycle of the UIA 2030 Award, a biennial international prize that promotes the role of architecture in advancing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a particular focus on SDG11 and the New Urban Agenda. The UIA, together with UN Habitat, will announce the recipients of the UIA2030 Award at the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijan, due to take place from 18-22 May 2026, in a in-person ceremony streamed live via UN Web TV. Awards in the third cycle will recognise built projects which demonstrate design quality and have made significant contributions towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in each of the following categories: 1) Sustainable Development Goal 6, Clean Water and Sanitation - Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all 2) Sustainable Development Goal 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth - Protect Labour Rights and Promote Safe Working Environments 3) Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities -Adequate, safe and affordable housing 4) Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities - Participatory, land-use efficient and inclusive planning 5) Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities - Access to green and public space 6) Sustainable Development Goal 13, Climate Action - Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate related disasters A medal will be presented to the winners in each of the Categories, together with Commendations for the remaining regional finalists. Established in 2021, the UIA 2030 Award continues to recognise built projects that exemplify architectural excellence while contributing significantly to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
