Press briefing: Establishing social housing and cooperation hubs to connect the Global North and South.
The resumed second session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly will take place from 29 to 30 May 2025 at the UN-Habitat Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
The event will be a signing ceremony of letters of intent to strengthen global cooperation on social housing and the provision of affordable and adequate housing for all. The first agreement, between UN-Habitat, the City of Paris, represented by the Executive Director of UN-Habitat and the Mayor of Paris, and the City of Nairobi, represented by the Governor of Nairobi, establishes a Social Housing Hub to connect the global North and South—advancing innovative, inclusive, and community-driven solutions to housing challenges. The second agreement, between UN-Habitat and the Government of France, sets up a Cooperation Hub focused on promoting sustainable social housing globally. It will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and fostering international partnerships.
